Body Butters

...Treat Your Body

Body butters are the ultimate treatment for dry skin. Packed with skin-softening ingredients, they rejuvenate and refresh dry, damaged skin. Made with plant oils and nut butters, pure essential oils, and beneficial botanicals, they will pamper and nourish your skin.

Natural body butter contains the moisturizing effect of pure, straight oils combined with the emollient advantages of body lotions. This lets you enjoy the benefits of both worlds in one small package.

These oil rich moisturizers may feel heavy and a bit greasy when applied... but they are quickly absorbed by the skin. And unlike a lotion, which easily washes off, they have great staying power. An application in the morning will leave skin soft and smooth all day long.

Body Butters Butter versus Body Lotions

What are the differences?

For one, they are much thicker than body lotions. So thick, in fact, they are packed in jars or small tin cans. A bottle or pump dispenser just won't do.

These are intensive moisturizers... ideal for dry skin care. When used regularly, they even work wonders for severely dry skin.

The reason they do their job so well is due to the high percentage of softening ingredients, such as cocoa butter and African Shea butter and moisturizing body oils... oils such as jojoba oil, coconut oil, and olive oil. Body lotions, on the other hand, are usually made with a large percentage of water.

And for those that enjoy aroma in a moisturizer, their scent will linger much longer than a lotion. Just be sure to look for products that contain natural essential oils rather than fragrance to avoid possible toxic ingredients. Lavender Body Butter, which contains calming, lavender essential oil, is a favorite.

Price?

A disadvantage of these little jars and tins is cost. Ounce for ounce (or gram for gram), they may cost more than other moisturizers. Of course, not everyone needs such a thick, rich moisturizer. Your skin type will determine what's best for you.

A body lotion is fine for normal to slightly dry skin. Dry to extremely dry skin, however, will really reap the benefits of this extra moisturizing power. This can easily justify paying a higher price. Then there are those (like me) that just love body butters and need no excuse or rationale to splurge a bit. And remember, since a little goes a long way, it's not really that expensive.

How to Apply?

It may not look like it, but that thick mixture is easy to apply. Simply rub a small amount between your hands to soften. Then gently rub on your skin.

As with all moisturizers, the best time to apply is right after a nice warm bath or shower. This is especially true with a thick body butter. It will easily melt when it hits the warmth of your skin. As the heat of the water will have opened pores, the butter is deeply absorbed. Also, even after towel drying, skin is slightly moist. Just a thin layer right after bathing will lock this moisture in.

Your skin will feel soft and smooth all day long!

How Often to Use?

For dry skin, apply twice a day… morning and night. A layer in the evening, just before bed, will allow the butter to work its magic while you sleep.

To avoid potentially harmful ingredients, be sure to choose a natural body butter.
