Nontoxic skin care is good for your body and good for your health. Eliminate your exposure to hazardous chemicals with safe, effective, natural skin care.
Choices ...
Avoiding all synthetic chemicals in the 21st century is not a practical option. For the most part, you have no control over the toxic environment you live in. You do have control over what you apply to your skin.
The United States FDA does not regulate the personal care industry...
What? Before investigating the skin care industry, I just assumed the government was protecting my safety and that of my children.
But the fact is the government does not oversee safety testing.
This industry polices itself. No surprise, they are doing a poor job! According to the nonprofit Environmental Working Group (EWG):
"89% of 10,500 ingredients used in personal care products have not been evaluated for safety".
Some ingredients are associated with serious health risks. Using nontoxic skin care will avoid such risk.
What chemical concoctions reside in your bathroom?
An EWG survey found that:
25% of women use 15 personal care products a day.
The average adult uses 9 products a day, with 126 unique chemicals.
One of every 13 women are exposed to identified or likely human carcinogens every day through their personal care products.
I was surprised when I actually counted what I use on a daily basis ...
Consider that most products include an extensive list of ingredients. That adds up to a lot of chemical exposure in a day!
How many products do you use?
Replace a conventional product with a natural, nontoxic skin care product. You immediately reduce contact with suspicious chemicals.
Harmful over time ...
Few personal care ingredients create an immediate, extreme health risk. The nagging problem lies in the daily, long-term contact with multiple, potentially harmful ingredients.
What is your body absorbing?
Plenty! Think of the nicotine and estrogen patches. These are very effective at penetrating the skin, to the bloodstream below. Chemicals in skin care products posess the same ability.
What I find particularly alarming is that manufacturers routinely add "penetration enhancers" to skin care products. This greatly increases the rate of absorption of the other ingredients. Potentially toxic chemicals thus go "faster and deeper into the skin to the blood vessels below" (EWG).
Health risk… evidence is mounting.
Pressured by several nonprofit groups, research is now underway. Increasing evidence potentially links several chemicals, such as parabens, to certain cancers and other serious health risks. The research is not conclusive … we do need more studies.
Europe, however, is not willing to wait for additional proof. Neither am I.
The European Union has banned 450 chemicals for use in skin care products sold in Europe. These are either questionable or determined to be unsafe. Yet the United States allows these products.
Not intended to frighten ...
Rather, I hope to inform you. The government is not protecting you and mainstream manufacturers are certainly not protecting you.
The research and debate will likely continue for years. Meanwhile ...
Choose natural, nontoxic skin care.
I would rather err on the side of caution. Membership in this vast, experimental test group is unappealing to my health. Potentially harming my body while I am trying to care for it makes no sense.
I use natural skin care products. Safe and effective solutions are available for most every personal care need.
Children's skin ... a particular concern.
I worry about our children. From babies to teens ... these years are crucial to developing bodies. The possible daily assault from dubious chemicals is surely not good. It is especially important to use nontoxic skin care products for the most vulnerable in our care.
Whenever possible choose natural, nontoxic skin care.Truly the best skin care available!
