Do you want to combat that annoying shine and defend against blackheads, blemishes, and acne?
The best oily skin care is simple. Yet it requires consistent daily and weekly attention.
5 Steps - Treatment for Oily Skin
1 - Gently wash your face twice a day. Select a mild, natural cleanser.
During my teens, I battled over-active oil glands and acne. I scrubbed my face at least three times a day with harsh “miracle” products looking for that “squeaky clean” feeling. Little did I know that was the worst thing I could do! Irritated skin protests by producing more oil.
2 - Apply an astringent or a toner after cleansing. This tightens pores, smoothing the appearance of your skin. Reapply during the day for a quick refresh.
3 - Treat yourself to a clay mask. Also known as a “mud mask,” this treatment is offered at exclusive spas. And with good reason. Clay extracts and absorbs oil from deep within your pores.
After 10 to 15 minutes, rinse the mask off. Voila! Excess oil is gone… leaving clear, radiating skin.
Use this treatment for oily skin before a special evening out. But remember the “too much of a good thing” rule. Except for small problem spots, once or twice a week is enough.

4 - Exfoliate. Exfoliation will:
Remove dead skin cells
Balance oil production
Shrink the appearance of enlarged pores
Again, choose a gentle product and never overdo exfoliation. This is another mistake I used to make. Surely scrubbing my face with mysterious gritty products would help? Wrong!
Never scrub your face with anything. Gently massage your skin with an exfoliating product. Twice a week is ideal for oily skin care.
A favorite of mine is Mountain Rose Herbs Facial Scrub. It can be used as a scrub or a mask. This all natural mixture is terrific at eliminating dirt and oily build up. Be aware though, it is not an out of the jar product. You must add water before each use. When I’m feeling extra special, I moisten it with herbal tea.
5 - Apply an oil free moisturizer only if needed. Oily skin usually doesn’t require a moisturizer. Yet there are exceptions.
Note that oil and moisture are not the same. You may have oily skin but lack moisture. This is especially true as you age. Combination dry/oily skin requires a moisturizer on the dry areas … usually the cheeks and neck.
In any case, choose a natural moisturizer specifically designed for your skin type.
While you cannot eliminate oily skin, with consistent care you can effectively manage it and look your best. Incorporating the 5 steps above into your daily routine is the best defense against blemishes and acne.
I always recommend all-natural skin care products in the treatment of oily skin. You can feel good about Mountain Rose Herbs skin care. Everything is 100% all-natural and many products are organic. No parabens, synthetics, artificial colorings or fragrances. Nothing nasty. Only safe, non-toxic skin care. And it works!
